Shannon McKinney-Freeman graduated from Ripon College (Ripon, WI) with A.B.s in Chemistry and Biology. She trained as a PhD student at Baylor College of Medicine (Houston, TX) with Margaret Goodell, before moving on to Children’s Hospital Boston (Boston, MA) to work with George Daley. She established her own laboratory in 2010 in the Department of Hematology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (Memphis, TN) in 2010, where she focuses on the basic biology of hematopoietic stem cells and hematopoietic ontogeny. She is also interested in how chronic hematologic disease corrupts hematopoietic stem and progenitor cell function.
